Day 18: Mindful Eating
Day 18 of the 21 Awesome Days Challenge!
Hey hey hey!
Following on from yesterday’s challenge of being mindful, today we are still going to be talking about a form of mindfulness, mindful eating.
You may have heard of mindful eating in many various contexts. I don’t know about you, but there are many many times I can recall where I have wolfed down my lunch or dinner (or a giant banoffee pie) without even being aware that I have eaten anything, it is guzzled down without a thought.
Then you get the full bloaty feeling and the guilt that ensues.
Mindful eating is a great way to regain some control and fully enjoy the process of eating food. Not just eating to fill your tummy, but eating because it is a delicious way of discovering flavours and textures.
It’s also a great way of reducing emotional eating as you will be more in tune with when your body is actually full.
You will be less likely be eating to fill an emotional hole, as you will be completely aware of the sensations in your body and will distinguish between the two.
Mindful eating is a great way to increase your vibration as you can distinguish between emotional and hunger sensations. You can see which foods trigger an emotional feeling, and have the time and clarity to distinguish between the two and choose your response.
You will be aware of triggers that make you want to eat, even when you’re not even hungry.
I was an extremely emotional eater, if I was bored I would pound a giant bag of crisps or get a sneaky mcdonalds after dinner all the time.
I wasn’t even hungry the majority of the time, more often than not I needed a drink of water or to tap on something that was stressing me out.
Recognising this allowed me to identify what my triggers were and appropriately deal with my emotions. Also in turn I lost weight without even trying as I was no longer eating my feelings.
Today’s challenge is to be fully present when you eat a meal. Take time to chew carefully and really taste your food, also notice if you feel full before you actually finish what you are eating.
Throughout your day also take notice if there are any stressful situations or feelings arising that make you want to eat, and see if drinking water or meditation or tapping helps to remove the craving instead.
Try it out and see if it helps, as always please share this challenge and let me know if you find anything that helps raise your vibration!
See ya tomorrow,
Wishing you an abundance of joy,
P.s. You’re awesome
