10 Books That Will Change Your Life In 2018

In today’s digital world it’s almost hard to remember the days before Facebook, when you would curl up with a Sweet Valley High book, or Goosebumps (remember those!?!) for entertainment on an evening.

I don’t know about you but I still love the thrill of opening a brand new book and getting so absorbed that I can’t put it down. There’s really nothing like it.

Even better when it is a profound and motivational book that empowers you to push yourself to become more than you currently are, and psyches you up for success.

Here are 10 books that will change your life in 2018, may it encourage you to make this year the best one yet!

1. Ask And It Is Given By Jerry And Esther Hicks

This is one of my favourite books ever, I have to say that the message given by Esther, Jerry and Abraham is one that has given me so much freedom, and an amazing insight into why my life was the way it was. It also equipped me with the tools to change this in an amazing way using the law of attraction.

This book offers an in depth and easy introduction to the law of attraction along with many different actionable exercises that you can use to hone your manifesting skills and create the life you desire.

2. The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck By Mark Manson

You may recognise this book cover as it seems to be in the hands of anyone in a coffee shop/train these days. Although for very good reason, Manson gives a refreshing yet humorous take on society and how to thrive within it in his #1 New York Bestseller.

This book will show you how to embrace your faults and fears in order to find the courage, perseverance and forgiveness that we are all seeking.

3. The Universe Has Your Back By Gabrielle Bernstien

It’s difficult not to develop a girl crush on Gabrielle Bernstien, particularly after reading her books and absorbing her message of personal power and enlightenment.

This book is a follow up to her bestselling hit Spirit Junkie and follows the message of transforming fear into faith. and making a powerful shift in your consciousness. If you are looking a book that talks straight, but also offers a unique way of viewing the world, this may be the one for you.

4. The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho

This incredible book is a timeless classic that has transformed the lives of countless readers across the world. It is a symbolic story about a shepherd called Santiago who embarks on an incredible journey of self discovery. The book is a strong metaphor for someone who wishes to fulfil his or her dreams, but takes too long because they think it is impossible. Coelho encourages you to listen to the intuitive nudge from within and take the leap to fulfil your greatest desires.

This book is still on the best seller list, 25 years after it’s original publication, a definite must have for your bookshelf.

5. Awaken The Giant By Tony Robbins

If you have been living under a rock you may not have heard of Tony Robbins, but chances are you haven’t and you are well aware of this absolute expert in the psychology of change. Awaken the giant is a step by step method to develop self mastery in all aspects of your life. Robbins is definitely a straight talker, but he walks his talk and his huge history of helping transform individuals from all walks of life says it all really.

If you have ever seen any of Tony’s talks or seminars you will see how pumped up and psyched he gets the crowd before starting. This book will do just that to you, you will be jumping up and down doing exaggerated air punches and everything… well it did for me anyway.

6. The Success Principles By Jack Canfield

You may recognise Jack if you have watched the film ‘The Secret’. Jack has been a prominent figure in the self development niche for many years, and he has presented all of his tips, hints and tricks into his extensive list of principles. The information in this book is invaluable and filled with stories of ordinary people who have completely changed their lives by following the principles outlined in the book.

This is a hefty sized book that really gives you everything you need to know, Jack also writes in an extremely down to earth and easy to read style, so you will find yourself breezing through it’s pages with ease. My copy is covered in notes and highlighter marks (cuz i’m a nerd). The ten year anniversary version also has extra chapters added and tonnes of success stories!

7. You Can Heal Your Life By Louise Hay

Louise Hay was the queen of affirmations and made an incredible impact on this world within her 90 years. This book was one of her first publications and a definite timeless piece that is filled with wisdom and healing through love.

Louise believes that any discord in your life is due to a lack of love and the only way to change that is to fill it with love. Louise healed herself from cancer and shares how she did this and also outlines how you can heal any aspect of your life stating ‘if we are willing to do the mental work, almost anything can be healed’. This book is warm and comforting in a way that Louise frequently creates with her writing, she makes you feel like an old friend.

8. Chicken Soup For The Soul By Jack Canfield And Mark Victor Hansen

This is the second time Mr Jack Canfield has made an appearance on my list (the lucky duck), but you can’t have a list of books that will change your life without mentioning the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. Along with his buddy Mark Victor Hansen, Canfield created a compilation of heartwarming stories of inspiration that will just make you go ‘awwwwww’.

The Chicken Soup books have inspired millions across the planet and have expanded into a HUGE series of books with many different sub topics for example stories for teachers, teenagers, mothers, pet owners etc. But you can’t beat the original, and if you want some proof that the world is awesome, I highly recommend this book.

9. The Miracle Of Mindfulness By Thich Nhat Hanh

ย Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh offers a simple yet profound guide to mindfulness and inner peace in this beautifully written book. The first time I read it, I found this book quite difficult to get through, I felt like I just didn’t quite ‘get it’.

However I was determined to give it another go, and I soon realised that I was assuming it should be a lot more difficult. We are accustomed to believing that we have to work hard and sacrifice in order to achieve success in anything. This book highlights how simple it is to achieve a state of peace, in fact it actually works better not to try so hard and just surrender to the flow.

This book taught me an awful lot and made me realise I was really over complicating things, ‘keep it simple’ is now my new motto. In reading this wonderful book I have found an easy way to be mindful, and joyfully present in my day.

10. Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway By Susan Jeffers

I’m ending my list with an absolute banger of a book, the legendary Susan Jeffers and her hilarious guide on how to face your fears and live a life without limits. Jeffers combines incredible life-changing advice with practical and actionable techniques and concepts, to try out on aspects such as: how to become the victor and not the victim, how to make no-lose decisions and how to silence your inner critic.

I hope I have inspired you to get your nose into an amazing life-changing book, there’s nothing like it!

  • Hi Colleen, this is a fantastic list. I am a super book lover and it excites me to know new Titles. Though technology has invaded this generation, I am still one of the million book lovers who still prefer a hard copy. It feels very personal to me and evokes a kind of realism only the actual turning of the pages and the “smell” of the book that leaves me in awe as I imagine and explore the world shared by the writers. Thank you for this list. I have new books to look forward to in reading =)
